1. Who we are
Venter & Venter Attorneys Inc. (registration number 2016/231680/21), of 31 Rissik Street, Louis Trichardt, is the responsible party for the personal information described in this policy.
We handle personal information in accordance with the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA), and with the duties of confidentiality that apply to attorneys.
2. What we collect
- Contact details — your name, email address and telephone number, when you submit the contact form or write to us.
- What you tell us about your matter — the description you give us when you first make contact.
- Correspondence — records of the emails, calls and messages between you and the firm.
This website does not run analytics or advertising trackers, and does not set cookies of its own.
3. Why we hold it
- To answer your enquiry and arrange a consultation.
- To act for you, if we take the matter on.
- To meet our obligations under the Legal Practice Act and FICA.
- To keep the records the law requires us to keep.
4. Who we share it with
We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for marketing. In the course of acting for a client we may share information with the courts, the sheriff, the Master's Office, correspondent attorneys, advocates and experts — but only as the matter requires.
We may also disclose information where the law compels it, or to protect our rights.
5. Confidentiality and the contact form
Information you send through the contact form travels over the open internet and is not privileged. Sending it does not create an attorney–client relationship. Please keep the first message brief, and do not send confidential documents until we have confirmed that we can act for you.
6. How long we keep it
Enquiries that do not become matters are kept only as long as they are useful and then deleted. Client files are retained for the periods required by the rules of the legal profession and by law.
7. Your rights
Under POPIA you may ask us to:
- confirm what personal information we hold about you;
- correct or delete information that is wrong or out of date;
- object to our processing of your information;
- lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator of South Africa.
Some information cannot be deleted where the law requires us to retain it. We will tell you when that applies.
